Laser Marking Technology

Permanent marking is not one process — it is three, defined by wavelength. The way a laser beam interacts with a material surface is set by its wavelength, and that decides which parts you can mark, how fine the detail is, and how much heat reaches the substrate.

01 — Three Wavelengths

Three sources, three material regimes

Every marking effect traces back to how the material absorbs the beam. These are the three source families AODEQI builds.

01 — Fiber

1064 nm

1064 nm

Fiber Laser

A near-infrared beam generated in a doped optical fiber. Metals absorb this wavelength strongly, so the energy concentrates at the surface and vaporizes material for deep, high-contrast, permanent marks.

Source
Fiber, air-cooled
Materials
Steel, aluminum, copper, brass, alloys
Power
20 – 100 W

02 — UV

355 nm

355 nm

UV Laser

A 355 nm ultraviolet beam can support fine marks with reduced heat effects on suitable plastics, glass and coated parts. Both photochemical and thermal effects may occur; the term cold marking does not guarantee damage-free results. Test the actual material and required mark.

Source
Diode-pumped UV, air cooled
Materials
Plastics, glass, ceramics, PCB, crystals
Power
3 – 10 W

03 — CO₂

10.6 µm

10.6 µm

CO₂ Laser

A far-infrared beam from a gas laser. Organic and non-metallic materials absorb this wavelength well, producing clean marks on wood, acrylic, leather, paper and packaging at production-line speed.

Source
RF-excited CO₂, air cooled
Materials
Wood, acrylic, leather, paper, foam
Power
30 – 100 W

Power ranges and material fit are indicative and confirmed by sample testing on your actual parts. Source construction and cooling vary by model.

02 — Side by Side

Compare every machine family on one table

Fiber, UV, CO₂, MOPA and Handheld — wavelength, power range, typical materials, typical applications, marking speed and marking effect, in a single engineering table so you can narrow the right source before you send samples.
